Great Fire of London

Photo taken by Eden

We are learning about the Great Fire of London.  It started in 1666 which is a really long time ago.  Nearly 400 years ago.  That is even before TV was invented!

There was no fire brigade so they used hooks, squirters and buckets to put out the fire.  They also used gunpowder to blow up houses so the fire couldn’t spread.  It lasted about four days.

The people used trolleys to take out special things to them and expensive foods like cheese and wine.  They buried them to save them.  Samuel Pepys wrote a dairy about what happened and that is one way we know about the Great Fire of London.

The fire started in a bakery in Pudding Lane shortly after midnight.  The people hurried to the River Thames to escape from the fire.
