Reciting Poems

Today we have been looking at poem by some famous (and not so famous) poets.  We have been trying hard to learn some off by heart.  We have brought home our poetry anthology tonight so we can show you.  Below are two of our favourites!

Today I Saw a Worm by Spike Milligan

Edith Cavell Moving Pictures

Edith Cavell from

In History, we have been looking at World War One and one of the heroes of this period, Edith Cavell.  To begin with, we didn't know ANYTHING about her. We used the internet to find out information about her life and what she did in World War One.

This led us to even more questions!

If you would like to find out some information, this is a great website: Edith Cavell

We have also been looking at moving picture and making mechanisms like levers and sliders.

We decided to mix these two together to tell other people about this great hero who looked after EVERYONE, not just the soldiers on her 'side'.

We took some of the main parts of her life and illustrated them then animated them with sliders and levers.  Have a look below at the main events that we illustrated:

Edith Cavell leaving home.

Edith Cavell going learning to be a nurse.

Edith Cavell helping soldiers of all countries

Edith Cavell about to be arrested.

Edith Cavell being shot by firing squad.

Here are all of our animated pictures:

Please leave a comment as we love to read them in class!

Thanks for reading.

A Test Post For Spellings!

I am testing if this will work!

I have posted a link below. Please click on this and see if you can see this week's spellings for Mr. Needle's phonics group. It should contain words that have the -le letter strings, lke needle, wriggle and middle.

Here is the link:

Mr. Needle's phonics group's spellings - Week 5

Thanks for reading!

Please comment below if it works for you.

Word Classes

We have been looking at word classes.  This is the terms we use when trying to sort our language such as nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives and - today's new word - prepositions.

Prepositions are words that tell you where something is. So in the sentence:

Iron Man flew over the shop.

'over' is the preposition.

We had lots of cards to make our own sentences, but we had to read them to make sure they made sense and we had all the words we needed.  This is very important in our writing.

Here are some pictures of our work. Have we done them all correct? Do all the sentences have 2 nouns, a verb, a preposition and a adverb?

Thanks for reading, commenting on and sharing our blog.

Axel's Training

We have been looking at the story of Axel Storm and have been retelling parts of it. This is the part where Axel starts training to remove the Diamond Moon with his Uncle Raffles.  They have just landed on a tennis course and...

Sketchings

We have been looking at sketching and as our topic is our local environment (including the wonderful hills and mountains and forests that surround us), we thought we would have a go at sketching some leaves from the trees in our grounds.

We have looked at a brilliant video about a child called Austin who wanted to get better at drawing a butterfly and have tried to draw a few sketches, focusing on changing 1 thing each time to make them even better.

We have also tried to do some shading using darker lines, cross hatching (like Shoo Rayner) and smudging. Can you tell which is which?

What do you think of our drawings?  Thank you for leaving a comment!
