Action Sentences

We have been looking at writing short action sentences for the exciting parts of our stories.  Some pictures of our writing are below but these are the sentences we wrote together after watching the trailer for Jack the Giant Slayer.

Jack swung across the ceiling.  His face turned red.  His clothes were full of giant's blood.

Jack tried to chop off the two headed giant's head with his axe.  The giant smacked Jack to the side.  Jack screamed.

Jack spotted an axe.  He bounced off the gigantic couch.  He tried to chop the giant's head off.  "Argh!" the giant screamed.

Jack leapt.  He injured the ferocious giant.  The giant collapsed.

Jack pounced off the table with an axe.  He landed on the giant.  Jack cut the giant's head off.

The giant stomped across the woods.  The sheep scattered.  One scared sheep didn't get away.

Traditional Tale Characters

In English we are looking at traditional tales.  Emilia read some of her Polish tales to us and we recognised lots of them!

We have been learning about new types of sentences that can help us improve our writing.  Today we learnt about Alan Peat 2 adj sentences and we have written about some of the common characters in traditional tales.  What do you think?

Slowly, the witch offered a juicy, poisonous apple with her ugly, warty hand while she picked her crooked, spotty nose.

His enormous, strong muscles bulged as he swung his ferocious, green claws.

While he was eating Granny, his slobbering, dribbling mouth showed his teeth as sharp as swords.

He picked his filthy, snotty nose with his enormous, dangerous club before he wiped it on his disgusting, hairy loin cloth.

The giant caught the bouncy, golden ball with his hands which were as big as tree tops.

Great Fire of London

Photo taken by Eden

We are learning about the Great Fire of London.  It started in 1666 which is a really long time ago.  Nearly 400 years ago.  That is even before TV was invented!

There was no fire brigade so they used hooks, squirters and buckets to put out the fire.  They also used gunpowder to blow up houses so the fire couldn’t spread.  It lasted about four days.

The people used trolleys to take out special things to them and expensive foods like cheese and wine.  They buried them to save them.  Samuel Pepys wrote a dairy about what happened and that is one way we know about the Great Fire of London.

The fire started in a bakery in Pudding Lane shortly after midnight.  The people hurried to the River Thames to escape from the fire.

We found all this information at http://www.fireoflondon.org.uk/game/.
